This news has been a decade in the making, a decade in which the gaming landscape (and let’s be honest, the world itself) has changed drastically. However, on the 5th of December 2023 the first official trailer for gaming giant Rockstar’s latest addition to their colossal ‘Grand Theft Auto’ series will finally release. Here’s everything you need to know.

Where can I watch the trailer?

The newest instalment of the hit franchise is finally revealed, giving us a glimpse at the new-look modern day Vice City setting as well as the new main protagonist, Lucia.
With the trailer already skyrocketing towards a 100 million views, excitement for GTA 6 has reached fever pitch. Unfortunately, we’ll still have to wait a over a year for the actual release of the game in 2025, but we can’t win them all, can we?

GTA 5 is easily one of the most successful video game titles of all time, to the extent that it’s long enduring popularity may even have disincentivised Rockstar Games from hastening production of their shiny new GTA 6 title. With this being said it’s certainly still baffling to think that we waited 10 years following the release of GTA 5 to even be enticed by the possibility of a trailer for it’s follow-up.
Where will GTA 6 be set?
This image posted by Rockstar doesn’t exactly give us much information, so naturally we’ll be delving into gratuitous speculation anyway, because theory crafting and hype are parts of the excitement after all!
The golden pinkish sunset and palm trees immediately produce the impression of a Miamiesque beach setting, which is aligned with the earlier leaks that reported a return to Vice City as the story’s setting. We can only dream of how Rockstar will look to potentially reimagine the iconic background from their 2002 title GTA: Vice City, or perhaps we’ll see something new entirely. What we can be sure of though is that this is a massive win in particular for older, more long-time players of the iconic series.
GTA 6 leaks: what did they tell us?
Whilst there wasn’t real ‘official’ acknowledgement of GTA 6 until February 2022 when Rockstar announced they were working on the title, there was in fact a massive set of leaks later in that same year which provided fans with a glimpse into the new world that was being created.
We were shown work-in-progress footage of a modern-day Vice City, with 2 potential protagonists teased in the form of Lucia and Jason. The pair are depicted doing various activities such as entering a strip club and robbing a diner (the perennial bread and butter of any cultured GTA player), in what could possibly be a modern reinvention of a sort of Bonnie-Clyde dynamic, one that certainly arouses interest for GTA fans as we once again are offered the possibility of controlling multiple protagonists as we did in GTA 5.
GTA 6 Release date : When?
With Rockstar adopting relatively radio silence as their position over the past decade when it came to GTA 6 news, we are still a ways away from having an actual release date and will have to suffice ourselves with the rough target of 2025 .
What’s left for us is to then do what any self respecting gaming aficionado would do and speculate, using the release patterns of previous Grand Theft Auto games. GTA 5’s trailer was released at the beginning of November 2011, with the official game dropping a near 2 years later in September of 2013. Extrapolating this pattern to our current predicament forecasts the actual game to release towards the middle or the end of 2025 rather than the beginning, which seems oh so far away.
We can only hope that this time round the wait won’t be quite as long (I mean come on.. we’ve already waited 10 years for a measly trailer!), and plenty of gaming community voices are hopeful that we may even see GTA 6 in the next year or year and a half. We await with our fingers crossed in hope that it’ll be sooner rather than later, however we’re certainly happy to wait a little longer if we’re going to be treated to a game as brilliant and immersive as GTA 5.

What can we expect the GTA 6 price to be?
As of right now, AAA video game titles are generally priced upwards of £60 upon release, so it’s pretty safe to surmise GTA 6 would be positioned around this price point. Being such a premium title, however, as well as taking into account the potential inflation of prices over the next year or two as we await release, it’s possible that we may end up at a price around £70/$80.

From simply cruising the Vice City streets to the seeing the lives of protagonists Franklin, Michael and Trevor unfold in chaotic and dramatic fashion in GTA 5, Rockstar have always found new ways to engross and entertain us.
